
Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development
Akeel Williams is the Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at CoverMyMeds. In this role, he is responsible for analyzing market trends, connecting customers to new CoverMyMeds innovations and investigating potential partnerships that can yield greater value for customers and patients.
Akeel is an experienced healthcare and pharmaceutical leader with a background in P&L ownership, M&A execution and integration, and strategic planning across the pharmaceutical value chain. He has worked with pharmaceutical companies, providers, wholesalers, digital health startups and pharmacies while helping organizations develop and execute strategies that improve access to specialty medications.
Akeel began his career in a variety of commercial roles for several global pharmaceutical companies where he partnered with large physician practices, specialty clinics, retail pharmacies and health systems to support commercial growth across multiple therapeutic areas. He later joined McKesson where he led strategic planning efforts across the specialty, distribution and life sciences segments. During his time there, he also led the acquisition and integration planning for BDI Pharma Inc.
After McKesson, Akeel served as Global Corporate Strategy and Development Lead at Gilead Sciences where he advanced enterprise level strategic initiatives. He then joined GoodRx, serving most recently as Vice President and General Manager of Strategic Operations. In this role, Akeel organically built and led the provider business unit connecting specialty physician practices, health systems and retail dispensers to a marketplace for pharmaceutical manufacturer-sponsored drug savings programs.
Across his various leadership roles, Akeel has focused on strengthening connections across complex healthcare stakeholders and supporting initiatives that improve patient access to specialty therapies.
Akeel holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration from Emory University. He currently resides in San Francisco, where he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and their five children.
