CoverMyMeds Privacy Notice for SMS/Text Communications with Patients
Effective Date – August 1, 2025
This Privacy Notice describes how CoverMyMeds (CMM) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when sending you SMS/text messages, which CMM may do on behalf of your health care provider(s) (HCP) while performing services that you requested from your HCP.
Information Collection: Your HCP gave CMM your name and phone number so that we could send you SMS/text messages related to various healthcare services that CMM facilitates on behalf of your HCP. When CMM sends you text messages, CMM may collect information about your interactions with those messages (such as delivery or response data). If the additional information we collect is considered individually identifiable information, the data is treated as Protected Health Information (“PHI”) under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (“HIPAA”). Use and disclosure of such data will comply with HIPAA’s Privacy and Security Rule.
Use of Information: Data is used solely to communicate with you as requested by your HCP, such as by providing prior authorization updates, sending links to complete documents related to your treatment plan, and delivering other non-marketing communications; and to support the operation and improvement of our messaging services. CMM does not use your information for unrelated purposes outside the scope of these services without your consent.
Data Security: CMM maintains the information we collect with proper physical, electronic and administrative safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Access to your information occurs on a need-to-know basis.
Data Sharing: Personal data collected as part of the SMS/text messaging services are not shared with any third parties, except for the SMS service provider to enable message delivery.
Data Retention: Data associated with these processes will be retained as long as necessary to deliver the messages requested by your HCP or otherwise provide services your HCP has requested, as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, and to resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
Opt-Out: To stop receiving text messages, reply 'STOP' to the text you received from CoverMyMeds to opt-out at any time. For help at any time, respond 'HELP' to the text you received from CoverMyMeds.
Opt-out requests will be processed promptly, typically within 24 hours.
Access and Control: To exercise your right to access or amend personal information, contact your healthcare provider.
Changes to this Policy: This Privacy Policy may be updated, which will be reflected by the Effective Date.
